Julie Mattson, a seasoned fly-fishing guide living currently in Oklahoma, brings over 40 years of fly fish experience as a angler, guide, Fly Tyer and a prominent member of the USA Women's National & Worlds Fly Fishing Team since 2022. Her journey into the world of fly fishing began in Montana at the age of 10, which sparked a lifelong passion that has taken her across the country from Alaska to Montana and Oklahoma.
Julie's dedication to fly fishing, was showcased in 2022 when she participated in the inaugural USA Women's Fly-Fishing Nationals in Colorado, clinching a silver Team medal and securing her well-deserved spot on the National Team. She then proudly represented her country at the 1st Women's Worlds Competition in Norway, July 2022.
Julie's contributions as both an angler and teammate helped the team bring home the Bronze Medal at the 2nd Womens Worlds Championship in Canada, Sept.2024.
Currently, Julie is gearing up to represent the country again at the upcoming World Championship in the Czech Republic in May 2024. Beyond her competitive pursuits. Julie is the owner and operator of On The Rivers Fly Fishing Company, located in Southeast Oklahoma along the Lower Mountain Fork River. During the summer months, she guides in Southeast Alaska at The HookUp Fly Shop.
Julie travels some giving classes and as a key speaker, at events where she shares her knowledge and skills, if it’s learning to casting or brush up on skills, tying flies, or helping someone catch their first fish on a fly rod.
Julie's commitment extends beyond her professional endeavors as she actively engages in volunteer work for organizations like Reel Girls, Casting for Recovery, Boy Scouts, Healing Waters, patriot anglers and as a mentor for Mayfly.
Julies true love about this sport, is we all are always learning from each other, no matter how long you have been in this sport always learning.

Lawson Braun began his fly fishing journey with a single dry fly and a brook trout in Cherokee, North Carolina when he was 8 years old. He is now in his fourth year as a member of the USA Youth Fly Fishing Team that placed first in the 2023 World Youth Fly Fishing Championship held in Bosnia. He loves seeing the joy that this sport can bring to people just as it has to him, even more than that, he loves sharing it with everyone he can. This will be his second year as a guide, as well as his fifth year as a competitive angler. He absolutely loves this sport and all it has taught him. It has become a part of his passion to share fly fishing with others.
THESE ARE 90 MINUTE CLINICS, LEARNING THE PROPER FUNDAMENTALS OF FLY CASTING AND EURO NYMPHING TECHNIQUES. ALL WOMEN'S GEAR IS PROVIDED FOR EACH CLINIC OR YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN GEAR. CLINICS WILL BE HELD 12:00 - 1:30PM EACH DAY OF THE FESTIVAL AND LIMITED TO 6 SPOTS PER DAY. CLINICS ARE FREE.
