Started tying in the late 50s and have been tying ever since. Learned from a high school principal by going to this house after school to watch him tie and learn.. In the early day we didn't much in the way of tools, my hackle pliers were clothes pin sharpened on the end, my vise came from Herters.
Alot has changed but the flies are still the same. The thing that has changed for me is my health , arthritis in my hands and macular degeneration has compromised my eye sight, so I tie the easier ones and have given up on dry flies....can't see them to fish with anyway.Guess I'll tie til I die....Bob Nanney

Hi all, my name is John Brandow. I have been fly fishing for about 7 years now, mostly in Western North Carolina. I have been tying my own flies for about 6 years. It's a great feeling to hook a trout with a fly you have tied. I am originally from Florida, when I was a kid, I mostly fished for largemouth bass then later I moved to saltwater fishing. I have to say I truly love being out on a stream fly fishing for either a big stocker or a wild trout on small water....
